TNR (Trap-neuter-return) is used as a means of management for un-owned, semi-owned or feral cats.

 

TNR involves capturing cats, desexing and returning them to the place where they were found. The aim of a TNR program is to reduce breeding among un-owned cats and produce a stable, healthy cat colony that will eventually reduce in numbers as the cats pass away of natural causes.

TNR is one humane method promoted as an alternative to euthanasia for managing and reducing populations of unowned cats in Australia.

If well managed a TNR program could be an appropriate option. It would need to include TNR of adult cats that are unable to be socialised or rehomed and the desexing and re-homing of kittens and adults that are socialised to humans.
